Yes, this was purchased by a choosy ELD teacher of a very large middle school. I can see why. It is an excellent, intensive preparation for using academic language and skills that a student needs so much in mainstream classes. Well-done. Each lesson is concise but intensive. The accompanying Student Activity Journal gives the student practice in what is taught in this text. If you're serious about preparing your ELD students for success in the mainstream and in college, this is an excellent book to use.

Great purchase, for the price it is an excellent resource. It is hard cover and in pretty good conditions. I feel happy for it.

I have seen the photographs of Jacob Riis in the real and was very disappointed to see them so poorly reproduced in this book. Documenting impoverished NYC in the late 19th century what Riis is most known for and his photographs were an important part of that work.It's possible I didn't do my homework here but it is a good reminder of one of the shortcomings of buying books online. Had I picked this up in a bookstore and seen how poorly the photography was represented, I would not have bought it. I'm interested in the story but the photographs tell so much of it and are in every way as important as the words.

This a Very, Very, cheaply copied, version, stolen from the original book. The clowns who "copied, and pasted" paragraphs from the original, couldn't even bother to do it correctly. Typos are rampant. A four year old could've done a better job. The pictures are smudged, and blurry. They obviously were out to make a quick buck. And they even had the nerve to print when they made it ( when you order it, they print it, off of their copy machine).Word to the wise... DO NOT BUY A BOOK FROM THIS PUBLISHER.

Ok, if you read the whole description of this edition, you will see at the very bottom that this is a special reprint of a specific edition that didn’t include any of the photos... but I sought out this book because it was called an important piece of photojournalism...Half of the point of the original book was the photos, so I had not expected that there was going to be an edition that removed the photos. The text is still important, but repeoducing a collection of photos without the photos is cheap.

Riis had intimate knowledge of the slums of New York having lived there briefly after his arrival from his native Denmark. He experienced a gradual worsening of his circumstances, hunger, theft and rejection. After finding employment as a newspaper reporter, Riis experimented with photography and he was able to document the overcrowding of tenements, the dismal conditions of many dwellings, shiftless drunkards, decrepit alleys and groups of newspaper boys (shoeless!). Meticulously documented conditions, census figures, and income of his subjects reveal a horrendous picture of "the other half" of New York. Separated into chapters devoted to the living quarters of the various immigrant groups (Irish, Jewish, Italian, Chinese etc.), he cannot escape some stereotypes - the money grubbing Jew, the dirty Irish, the "almost" clean Germans - as evidenced in the respective tenement blocks. From overcrowding, starvation wages, dismal hygienic environment - no water in the summer, smallpox, tuberculosis, measles, typhoid, cholera, on to little schooling, malevolent landlords. Then, finally, there might be a way out ... Riis writes about some semi-enlightened landlords, who make a good return on their investment while providing decent living conditions. Yet, the immigrants keep coming, the slums are always there, An enlightening book. Thanks to the photographs the horrendous conditions are made clear. The Kindle edition was a scanned version of Riis' 1890 study complete with photographs and appendices.

Wonderful book, I got it since my great g-parents, grandparents and parents came from the Victorian to 1935 era of in Manhattan. They left Ireland to make their fortune here. I was aware of some of the poverty and conditions, but this book really shows how awful and harsh the immigrants had things and especially their children living sometimes on the streets. They suffered much, and people have no idea except for eyewitness accounts of the appalling conditions of shelters, work houses, suicides, alcoholism that they fell into after leaving their poor home countries for a better life in America. This is a classic by Jacob Riis and a window into a world unknown to most people. He attempted to alleviate the bad living conditions of poor people by exposing their living conditions to the middle and upper classes. Think things are bad now?, You should see how bad, "bas is", as you travel with the writer into ghettos and alleyways of working people toiling to just eke out an existence at long hours, often working at home making clothes and other goods to sell.

This edition is full of typos, many of which render entire sentences illogical. The whole thing is awkwardly formatted, as if the editor had no concept that the information was going to appear on the page of a book. There is no table of contents. "Special illustrated edition" is a complete lie -- the images are uselessly reproduced. Many of the images are so illegible that the typed captions within the image had to be reproduced outside the image. Not a single image in the book is adequate or useful -- I went online for worthwhile reproductions. I was truly disappointed with this edition which is in no way fit to be published. The publisher, "Seven Treasures Publications" does not seem to have a website, and offers only a fax number and an email address, nor is an editor named. This is clearly not a serious nor reputable publication company -- anyone who has bought this book, including me, was duped.

The photos from this dark time in the most poor section of a bustling immigrant city were very stark and startling. The author writes the narrative very well, and it is as if he has studied these people for themselves, by being among them. His expose was very instrumental in getting changes effected for the benefit of these poor people. When we look at these, we are reminded of the hardships that were endured by our forefathers and mothers, who came to America, willing to risk everything for the opportunity presented here. It should increase our respect for them tremendously, to understand, in stark black and white evidence, of how they were forced to live.

I bought this for my grandma as she just recently moved to the city. You'd think in a city with so much tourism it wouldn't be so hard to find a street map (especially at a truck stop)... but you'd be wrong. I finally broke down and bought this one. It's been great to show her where things are and I use the little sticky note arrows to point out places she needs. I'd definitely recommend this map to someone new to the area. It shows streets clearly on it.

Love how detailed this map of the Boston area is. You can see even the smallest streets where they are located. I'm not to fond of the price since I think a map over $7 is a little pricy, especially if the paper quality is just like newspaper... I had to purchase this map for of my my classes. The shipping was surprisingly quick! I ordered it Wednesday evening and it arrived to me on Friday night even though it stated the map would come next week. It came way before that.

It's a map. I can read it well enough. I noticed others thought the type was too small. However, my gripe is that it doesn't cover the surrounding areas very well. I am trying to buy a house there and need a larger perspective than it offers EVEN THOUGH the houses I'm looking at all have NASHVILLE addresses. I think it's out of date for how the city has grown, but for the inner city areas, it's fine.

Nashville is a large metropolitan area and this map helped guide us to many places in both the inner city and the attractions surrounding the city. We could not have made the trip successful without it. I love maps.

I'm just happy to have a paper map--looking at a computer doesn't always give me the perspective I'd like to see. I'm sorry that paper maps are becoming a rarity.

Great detail, very useful - for those who don't have a nav system, this is a must in Nashville!

This read was good and I liked the instant draw between Amari and Luca. However, for some reason, unlike other A. Nicole novellas, I just couldn't really feel that passionate love at first sight connection. I heard all of what Luca said,but beyond just great sex, the connection that makes me believe in love at first sight wasn't there. Still, this was good, but something was missing.

No. This was my first book from this author. I have read the reviews for her other books so I will try one of those as well before I just write her off. The book was short and I did not get pulled in. I kept reading thinking that it wld get better but it didnt. It was unbelievably unrealistic and for a very immature audience.

The author is coming into her own with each novel. The rendering this time was compelling in the way the romance unfolds and the development process is spot on goodness. The hero claimed the woman he wanted from the start and the heroine fought him tooth and nail. Their relationship was appealing. I believed them.

I really enjoyed this book. How awesome to find something you want and like when your not even looking for it. I loved Luca.

I loved this book. First time reading this author and Luca was so cute with Amari. Can't wait to read the next book.

This is the second book I’ve read from this author and I’m loving these cute lil short stories. Something quick for me to read on my 2 hr breaks

This book was a really good read. It was so smooth and the characters were amazing. This was my first A. Nicole read but it definitely won’t be my last. Bravo!

Liking Amari and Luca. Once they get to know each other she will realize he is the one for her. Hopefully we get to read more about them.

A little more expensive than what I usually pay for a yearly calendar, but I do like the layout of the grid for each month and the tree pictures are realy beautiful!

The calendar was attractive enough, but apparently this year the calendar maker decided to save .0000003 cents by not including a description of the pictures (tree type, location, or both) which I consider lazy, cheap and annoying. If they're going to pull stock photos and print them they have no business charging what they do. Will not buy from this publisher again.

I usually go for castles but this year wanted something a little different. This hit the nail on the head. Beautiful pictures and a very nice verity.

I gave it to my boyfriend for new year's. He was a forestry major, and he loves it! But I wasn't a forestry major, and I love it, too.

Love trees and I love this calendar. Beautiful photos. Well done.

Bought several as Stocking Stuffer gifts, and they are much appreciated. Good photos.

I'm old enough to have learned my fishing tactics from Ray Bergman's "Trout", and to have read "Matching The Hatch" in its first printing, Mind you, I will not be throwing out Flick, Marinaro, Caucci/Nastasi, or Swisher/Richards, but I will now be turning to The Bug Book most of the time, because it is that thorough, that concise, and that good.

A well written book with terrific photography, I'd recommend it for anyone starting out with fly fishing and tying. Terrific explanations of the terms, and reasonably complete coverage from West to East, that applies not only in the US, but much of Canada as well.

There is no getting around it. If you are a fly fisher and/or tier at any level of expertise you need this book.Paul Weamer does an outstanding job of organizing this book into easy to digest segments and covers everything from the different types of waters to the stages of key insects in our beloved trout’s diet.He also nails the explanations perfectly without getting dry, boring or overly detailed. Buy this book, you need it.

Amazing book. Good explanation of bug hatches and detailed information for understanding the mayflies, caddis flies, stoneflies and more. Highly recommended for every fisherman.

This book is so general that I found rather unhelpful. I would only recommend this for someone who has zero knowledge of fly fishing that needs an introduction to the terminology. I would contest that for someone who has a year or more of fly fishing under their belt that this book likely has very little that you aren't already familiar with.

Well made, Good book on a subject where things can get quite technical fast. Great photography, clearly depicting what a fisherman needs to be both informed and using the right thing at the right time.

Although I’ve been fly fishing for a while I still found this book was helpful. Filled in some of the gaps in my knowledge. Great photos. Well written clear prose style.

Fantastic book and very well written and packed with loads of information.Well worth the cost (minimal) and a must read for all us dedicated fly-fishers from coast to coast.

I love love love this book. So many fascinating components to the Great Pyramid. I highly recommend reading this book. This was the information I was looking for that I couldn't find anywhere else.

Great book as always from E. Raymond Capt collection IPad format

This book brought me into a clear understanding of the pyramids which led me to a further study. Great book well researched and you can trust what is written.

The work is an example of advanced levels of applied hermeneuticology and dialectic physics. Beginning with the mathematical principles of The Giza Structure known as The Great Pyramid of Cheops, only remaining wonder of the world, Capt outlines a series of remarkeable "coincidences" concerning the meaning hidden in the stones.Will satisfy the interests of the learned scholar or pyramidical novice alike. Contains very fine graphics and schematics. Read a copy on loan from a friend which introduced to my mind certain new precepts. It seems more and more likely upon completing this work that the divine will is expressed within the pyramid, a pillar of Egypt as the Prophet Isaiah stated, a gospel in stone.

To this point. It is certain the bset book on The Great Pyramid.E. Raymond Capt is, in my opion, the best writer of Biblical Archaeology. His faith shows through in all his books. A Study of Pyramidology will explain the secrets of the Pyramid that you not hear or see anywhere. Either on Television, or, I would believe, in any magazines on the market. To understand why this is true is way too long an explanation to enter here. But simply put, there is much in this world hidden by those who do not wish you to have certain knowledge of God's great creations. Anyperson, young or old will have their eyes opended to the wonders of this great structure.

Incredible work - very detailed and [almost] understandable to the novice! A more in depth companion to his earlier work, cannot recommend this highly enough.

If you only had one book you could buy on the Symbolisms of the Great Pyramid, this should be it! It covers all aspects of the symbology of the Great Pyramid, has clear diagrams and pictures (almost one per page), is written in current English, and is reasonably priced.

The author's name, I believe, is "E. Raymond Capt" not "E. Raymond"
